Dumppi is the association for the students of information systems science and computer science. It was founded in 1968. During these 40 years Dumppi has grown into one of the biggest and most active subject associations at our university, offering something for everyone.
Dumppi is the students’ link to the department, university, and student’s union, and it attends to their interests. Dumppi offers many kinds of activities as a counterbalance to studying: sports (bowling, floorball, volleyball, skiing, sports events), parties (Dumppi has achieved eminence as an organizer of great parties), visits to enterprises, sauna evenings, excursions, and many other things. There are activities for each week. Also, Dumppi has good connections to business enterprises, since its members are in great demand because of their unique know-how. Dumppi makes regular excursions to enterprises in Jyväskylä and many other cities. This way the students get information about work opportunities in the field. Besides enterprises, Dumppi also cooperates with other subject associations.
As a member of Dumppi you will get many monetary and immaterial benefits and make your student years immemorial. Despite of all the benefits, the membership of Dumppi is completely free. You can join Dumppi with a form you get from your tutor or at our website. As a member of Dumppi you can also use the burgundy overalls that are the trademark of Dumppi. All events are announced on the e-mail lists and at the website and at Dumppi’s IRCnet channel #dumppi where everyone is welcome.
Dumppi has an office (= living room) on the first floor of Agora. Anyone can drop in to the office whenever it is open (you can spot the open door even from the lobby). There is almost always free coffee available, or if there is not, you can make some. You can meet other members at the office, read e-mails, play Xbox, take a nap, or just hang around. The office is such a comfortable place that you can spend the whole day there (this has been tested, many times).
The members of Dumppi are known for their activity and visibility at student happenings. There are very different kinds of people in Dumppi, and they all get along great. This is one of the finest sides of Dumppi. We wish that you will also join our happy group and take part in our activities. This way you will be sure to get much more out of your student time!
